Using RMAN Catalog in Data Guard Architecture (0/4) - An Overview

  • by
Two purposes in this series of articles we want to make, the first one is to know how to register both the primary and standby database in a catalog, the other one is to familiar with the operation of a virtual catalog.

Since the primary and standby database share the same DBID, it's impossible to register both databases explicitly, but you can still reach the same result by some other ways.

There are two clauses to allow a virtual catalog owner to create the virtual private catalog and operate databases:
  • GRANT CATALOG FOR DATABASE
  • GRANT REGISTER DATABASE
In the series of articles, we will demonstrate above two clauses, then to see the differences between before and after a switchover. For further details, please refer to the following articles.
